CLEANSERS FOR ROSACEA: Cleansers I Love

Skincare is a topic that comes up regularly because it can be such an overwhelming area for people, even without the added complication of a skin condition. I wanted to share my current cleansers for rosacea options as I am often asked what my ‘favourite’ cleansers are. I actually find the term ‘favourites’ largely unhelpful because I use many different products – my bathroom, dresser, and bedside table are all cluttered with multiple bottles, pots, and tubes. I tend to select different products based on the season, how my rosacea is feeling, where I am, what I’ve been doing that day… it’s rarely a one-product-fits-all situation. I also love trying products out so that I can recommend you something that might work for you, which means I always have an eye out for something new or interesting.

DISCLAIMER: I am not a dermatologist, or a doctor, but I am a person who has lived with rosacea for 16 years and has learned a lot about it in that time. My blog is not a step-by-step manual for rosacea, it should be seen as more of a jumping off point: something to guide you and steer you in the right direction. You must always use common sense with regards to your skin type, tolerance levels, application etc.

FYI, I have rosacea type 1 which is mainly under control through trigger management, as well as stress management, and finding skincare like the below that works for me. If you have questions about rosacea in general, this post is the mothership, covering skincare, make up, triggers, lifestyle, psychological impact and everything else you can think of.

Products with a * next to them were PR samples, if there isn’t a * it means they were bought by me – my reviews are always honest, regardless of who bought them. With that in mind, here are the cleansers for rosacea that are currently living in my bathroom:

If you’ve been here a while, you’ll know I love a cleansing oil or balm to remove make up quickly and easily. The less time I’m touching and rubbing my face, the happier my rosacea is. For a first cleanse I really love the Medik8 Lipid Balance Cleansing Oil*, the Clinique Take The Day Off Balm*, and Elemis Pro-Collagen Naked Cleansing Balm*. All dissolve make up instantly, don’t irritate my sensitive eyes, and leave my skin feeling happy and calm. I tend to choose the oil on warmer days or if my skin’s feeling a little aggravated as it’s so lightweight. I would choose the balms if my skin’s feeling dry or tight as they feel very comforting.

NOTE: The Elemis balm is the NAKED version of the famous Elemis balm – the original product has fragrance so make sure you’re picking up the right one!

When it comes to a second cleanse (or a solo cleanse if I’m not wearing makeup or sunscreen), I have a few options: La Roche-Posay Toleriane Dermo-Cleanser (this will be of no surprise to anyone who knows me!), Beauty Pie Japanfusion Pure Transforming Cleanser*, and Medik8 Calmwise Soothing Cleanser*. All are very different formula-wise: the La Roche-Posay is a simple cream cleanser; Beauty Pie is a really light gel-to-oil formula (which could also serve as a great first cleanse); and Medik8 is a lovely soft foam. All are gentle on the skin, non-stripping, and keep my skin very happy while cleansing.

NOTE: the Medik8 cleanser contains sweet orange oil which gives it a citrusy fragrance – anything that smells citrusy usually scares me but I had no issues, but do take care if this is a potential trigger for you.

I hope you have found this round up of my current cleansers for rosacea useful – have you tried any of these? What are your favourite cleansers for rosacea?
